Morph-Portable Wireless Mouse Tailored for Individuals

Morph is a wireless portable mouse that is tailored to each individual’s hand shape, offering maximum comfort and portability at the same time. It’s made of electronic parts with a piece of laser-cut veg-tanned leather.

Ideation/Development Process

Inspired by Microsoft's Arc Mouse, I decided to make improvements to it by adding side supports for the thumb and little finger. I thought of using 2mm thick bio-degradable veg-tanned leather as the substitution material for the traditional abs plastic. It is flexible and sturdy enough to achieve the transition from two-dimensional to three-dimensional.

Morph ID was inspired when I made a vast amount of prototypes. I found out that different patterns can actually fit different users’ hand shapes.

Model Making Process

A lot of the feedback that I received was the questioning of the feasibility of the structure built with veg-tanned leather. Is it able to offer enough support to the hand? Is it able to slide on the desk smoothly like typical mice? Is it really comfortable? I think the only way to find out is by building a physical model with real veg-tanned leather.

Outcome 1: Comfort: Gives users full hand support and a soft feel of veg-tanned leather.

Outcome 2: Portability: Can be either assembled when using or taken apart when putting in a bag or on a key chain.

Outcome 3: Flat-packed: The mouse can be flat-packed into packaging which saves both material and space.
