Oblique is an oil lamp that can target both personal and spatial settings depending on the user’s mood & environment by twisting the upper half. Celebrating natural light sources instead of artificial light is one of my goals while curating this lighting project.

I aim to find a simple and sculpturally inspired form to achieve this kind of “mode switch” mechanism, and I think the tilted cylinder is the answer.
I did form exploration and proportion testing by physical mockups.
The concaved brass surface is made possible by hydraulic pressing into a laser-cut acrylic mold
Through the project, I learned to make things physically instead of over-relying on digital tools. Special thanks to Nick, Giulia, and Shona at The Glasgow School of Art for teaching me the necessary fabrication methods!
The concaved high gloss surface allows the light to be concentrated and amplified.
